Derecho Storm – RoughRiders Hockey Club
For Immediate Release: August 14, 2020
On Monday, August 10, 2020 a derecho – inland hurricane – ravaged through the state of Iowa and in the process brought damage to ImOn Ice Arena, the home of RoughRiders Hockey Club, and many other surrounding areas. Our thoughts and prayers, first and foremost, go out to all that have been devastated by the storm near and far from our home of ImOn Ice Arena. We know that the city of Cedar Rapids and the surrounding affected areas will come back stronger and better than before with time and everyone’s effort. Take the time to help your neighbors, friends, and family during these difficult times.
The arena management, City of Cedar Rapids, and the RoughRiders are in close communication on the overall status of the damage suffered to our home, ImOn Ice Arena. As soon as information comes available, we will be sure to share with our community. RoughRiders Hockey Club has already taken steps to begin the process of working with other surrounding associations and rinks to work through the development of a season for RRHC.
It is important to note, that our home of ImOn Ice Arena is an asset to our club’s success on and off the ice, but it does not define our program. RRHC is defined by the way we react in adverse situations, how we carry ourselves in our everyday lives, and how we respect our neighbors, opponents, friends, and family; and no storm or event can take away what we are, what we stand for. We will get through this horrible event and the COVID pandemic like we do with everything, together. Because we are #RIDERSTRONG, we are #CEDARRAPIDSSTRONG.
We will be sending out regular updates over the course of the next weeks on adjustments to our season. Stay positive, stay safe, and we will make the 2020-2021 a season that all players, families, and coaches will be proud of.
