Director Update: Spring AAA, 5,000 Touches, & 2nd Half Scheduling

Hello RoughRiders Family,

I hope this finds everyone healthy and safe during this holiday break. I wanted to take a moment and give you an update on a few upcoming events.

10,000 & 5,000 Puck Touch Challenge

Spring AAA Academy

RoughRiders Hockey Academy will be hosting its 3rd Annual Spring AAA Academy Program this summer for 12u, 14u, and 16u/18u. The Academy will take place at ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids. Our target start date is the last week of April and continuing through the 3rd week of June.

The goal of the Academy is to offer development with the area’s best coaches while allowing time for the multi-sport athlete.

  • Length of program is targeting 8-10 weeks
    • 12-15 hours of practice
  • 2 tournaments
  • Off-ice training
  • Nutrition training
  • At home workouts
  • Non-parent professional coaching staff

The Instructional Program Solon registration is still open for January. This program is for non-travel players. Space is extremely limited so do not hesitate to register today.

2nd Half Schedule

The 2nd half of the season has been mapped out with the current ice that is confirmed. All Google Calendars have been updated with confirmed ice. There will be ice on Sunday’s, but we are currently in the process of finalizing the days and times with a couple rinks in the area.

I have mapped out the 2nd half of the year to accommodate as many games as possible while balancing practice times to ensure development. This process was used during the 1st half of the year, but as we all know things will change as move through the 2nd half. The goal is to get the players on the ice as much as possible.

In early December, the Board of Directors voted to extend the season through April 3, 2021 for 8U Travel Select, and April 11, 2021 for 10U thru 14U. This scheduling process is underway already and will be announced at a later date.
